A Norfolk-based historical book archive was looking to store their documents safely and securely, away from the risk of damp, pests or theft in their private garage. The client was also interested in digitising the records for accessibility and an easy method of retrieving them when required.

The Challenge

When the museum enquired with us, they were concerned about the current condition and preserving the books, with some dating back to the 1800s. Their current storage location had damp conditions, a risk of pests, and had limitations when it came to accessing the books by the museum and authorised employees. The books also needed to be organised and categorised into a comprehensive inventory after being transferred to a safer facility so the museum knew exactly which books they had.

The archive was in a small garage within a residential cul-de-sac. The books were heavy and bulky, yet fragile, so it was important we organised the most suitable method of transportation to protect them  and reduce any further damage.

The Solution

We visited the site to see the client and discuss their storage, scanning and indexing requirements.
